Good News and Bad News

The Philles received some good news and some bad news recently. The good is that Ryan Howard may be starting a rehab assignment in Lakewood, the Phillies low A affiliate. According to the article, Howard may be back as early as July 13th. Obviously this is good news for a lineup that has put the ball in play, but not so much with power. Of course, I don’t think anyone is expecting Howard to be hitting the cover off the ball for a while. Still, it will be nice to have him back so we can predict when he will strikeout on breaking balls away.  The bad news is that Dom Brown’s rehab from his knee injury is taking longer than expected. I don’t think the Phillies were planning to call him up even after his recent hot streak in AAA, but this takes away more at-bats for someone who really needs them in order to improve and show the Phillies he is still a prospect. For an organization very short on quality position-players in the minors, Dom Brown is important.
