Best Case Hamels Scenario

John Smallwood of the Daily News wonders if the Phillies could pull of trading Hamels for prospects, but then signing him in the off season.  I wondered the same thing myself, because Hamels did say that he would be open to that.  I said in a recent post that RAJ has to be very creative this off-season and will be a real test for him as a GM.  He has to somehow keep the team together enough to be competitive but give up enough to rebuild to be competitive.  I would prefer to have Hamels back but also recognize the need for position players, especially a third baseman. This could possible solve both. In reality, this would probably not happen I would guess.

  1. Just looking at his numbers, Hamels is a top 10 pitcher in the NL. I don’t know the reality of this situation, but it’s probably in our best interest to keep him.
