Babe Ruf

That’s what some people are calling Darin Ruf, the Phillies prospect at AA who now has 32 HRs and a .999 OPS. It would be great if he could be called up in September. I posted a few days about his success, which has continued. As this article states, however, he is a first baseman blocked by Howard (kind of reminiscent of Howard and Thome a few years back) and has played a limited time in left field. He will be playing left in winter ball, though.

He was a 20th round pick, so his success has probably come as a surprise to many. He didn’t show much power until last year, including college, and he is 26, so there is reason to be skeptical. Nonetheless, it would be a reason to watch the Phillies in September.
