My own plan for the Phillies will be posted at some point this fall. IN the meantime, the Daily News canvassed their writers for the same. Each one laid out a basic plan. Most of them said the same: avoid big-time free agents, try to go the Gillick way of smaller, smarter signings. I thought Marcus Hayes was joking when I read his. Basically it said that everyone will return to form and the Phillies will be fine. He did include an interesting stat: from July 16th, Ryan Howard’s fifth start, the Phillies winning percentage the rest of the year would have given them 95 wins over a whole season.
At least two writers suggested bringing back Victorino for a low salary. I would consider that if he isn’t looking for anything crazy, as the outfield market is looking slim and expensive. Sam Donellon stated that Chooch should be moved to third which I thought was kind of ridiculous. You can read the full article here.
