Say It Ain’t So, Chooch!
I’m sure you’ve heard the news that Carlos Ruiz has been suspended for 25 games due to violating the league drug policy. He was caught using Adderall, an ADHD medication without permission. It’s a stimulant, so some players have taken it for non-medicinal purposes. In fact, it would seem baseball players have a higher rate of ADHD (wink, wink) than the rest of the population…hmmmm.
It would seem logical that Kratz will take his place until his return. Ruiz is one of the team’s most popular players. While I doubt that will change, I’m sure there will be some disappointment among fans. However, I think we are at a point where news of this stuff is no longer that shocking. I have read that one of the bobbleheads that will be offered next year will be Chooch. I find this odd since he just had one not too long ago. Regardless, it’s a good thing the giveaway is not until after April.
Coincidentally, this comes not too long after the Phillies protected Zack Collier from the Rule 5 draft by putting him on the 40-man roster. Collier was a high draft pick who has been disappointing until a stint in the Arizona Fall League this year where he did quite well, putting him back on the map. Collier was also suspended for using Adderall. He is an outfielder and was drafter along with Anthony Gose, who we could use right now. He was traded to Toronto in the Halladay deal, however.
