Phillies Showing Some Spunk

Good for Roy Halladay. Today, after Chase Utley was hit by Stephen Strasburg, Halladay went out and threw behind one of the Nationals’ hitters. While denying it afterwards amongst some chuckles from the assembled media, he did say the Phillies’ pitchers need to protect their hitters. And they do. Maybe not in spring training, but it was against their big rivals, so it was good to set that tone for the season. Remember, Halladay spoke of urgency earlier this spring.

Speaking of rivals, it’s nice that there’s a nice one starting to heat up between the Nats and Phillies. Now that the Mets have been so bad for so long, the Phillies need another rival. Maybe we’ll even see a fight this year–wouldn’t it be great to see Harper charge the mound against Halladay like Robin Ventura and Nolan Ryan? Remember, Ryan kicked his rear end.
