Lee Denies Doctoring
Two broadcasters for the Toronto Blue Jays recently accused Taylor Bucholtz of using a substance on his arm to doctor the ball. Bucholtz is having an incredible year and denied the accusations, saying it was merely rosin. One also accused Cliff Lee of the same thing, with the difference being that the doctoring substance is on Lee’s hat which, if you watch the Phillies, is pretty dirty.
When told about the accusations, Lee denied it and said his hat merely had sweat and rosin on it. What the broadcasters, both former pitchers, said was pretty reckless. One article about the accusations said that no hitter has yet asked to see the ball from Bucholtz, and I believe the same thing holds true for Lee.
It’s not that I don’t think pitchers try to cheat and doctor the ball, but Lee’s pitchers don’t have the wild movement you’d expect from a doctored ball. Maybe I don’t know about doctoring a ball, but I just don’t see it. If you know about Cliff Lee, his success comes mostly from pinpoint control that can border on the superhuman. If anyone on the Phillies would be accused of this I think it would have been Halladay or even Kendrick due to the movement they can get on the ball. You can read the full article here.
