The Next Week Could Be It

Starting tonight the Phillies will play seven games against the two teams in front of them. If they lose any more than two, it could quite possibly mean the season will be over. They are 8.5 games behind the Braves, so even if they sweep them, they will still be quite a ways back. Most importantly, however, is the proximity of this week to the trade deadline. After the next seven games, there is the All-Star break and the Phillies have four days off. The, they only have eight more games after that before July 31st, the trading deadline. So, in other words, if they tank against the Braves and Nationals and are say, 12 games out after next week, they are almost certain to trade a few players at the deadline. The Phillies can’t think about a wildcard because the wildcard teams will probably be better than the Braves, so the Phillies need to worry about winning the division.
