Walks A Problem
I’ve mentioned Jesse Biddle on this blog before. He’s one of the Phillies’ top pitching prospects and is a local product out of Germantown Academy. One thing that I’ve mentioned, and I’m sure others have too is that he needs to get better with his command. Case in point, he took a loss yesterday (his 14th of the season, by the way) and walked seven guys in the process. Yes, wins and losses aren’t a great stat to judge a pitcher by, but in this case he deserved the loss. He now has 82 walks in 138 1/3 innings pitched this year. He has struck out 154 on the bright side, but he’s not going to be a success in the big leagues if he can’t control his pitches. Because he has been able to strike out so many batters, he has kept his ERA respectable at 3.64. His WHIP is 1.345 which is also not good. Hopefully the kid can get better with that next year so we can see him up in Philly at some point.
