The Outfield

Here’s an article about Amaro thinking out loud about next year’s outfield. It’s always a problem trying to get a read on Amaro. Obviously, Dom Brown will be back. The other two spots are not guaranteed, although I would imagine Ben Revere will be back. I think Ruf’s status is up in the air, although he has given the Phillies a good shot of power. He has struck out a lot, but so did Ryan Howard, right? Ruf’s OPS is higher than Howard’s has been since any season since 2010, and even then it was not too much higher, so I don’t know if there is too much concern there. They could always trade for someone, I suppose, but there isn’t much in free agency beyond Jacoby Ellsbury (and his stats this year aren’t that much better than Revere’s. Ellsbury does have more power, but not a lot) and Shin-Soo Choo, who is having a very nice year. Ruf does have more power than Choo, however. We shall see what happens in the winter; hopefully it will be interesting.
