Is This 1997?
I’m starting to wonder if we’ve been transported back in time, but I don’t see a DeLorean or Doc Brown anywhere. According to Jim Salisbury, the Phillies will “have an eye” toward pitchers like Jerome Williams. “Who?” you ask. Good question, I said the same thing. He was so good last year, he was not tendered a contract. And, he was so good that he spent four seasons in the minor leagues smack-dab in the middle of his career. His career WHIP is 1.350 and strikes out less than six guys per nine innings. This is the kind of guy Ed Wade would have gone after in the late 90s when Terry Francona was manager. I know they’re not going to go after a top-shelf guy (although there really aren’t any) but going after this guy would be ridiculous. I guess to be fair, Salisbury did not say they have gone after him, but may go after a guy like him.
